First Day Bike Ride to the Backcountry

Be a part of a National movement to get people into State Parks!  Join Government Canyon State Natural Area volunteers to a guided hike to the dinosaur tracks on the first day of the year.  You will be able to boast being one of the first visitors to enjoy the trails of Government Canyon in 2018.   

Who is Invited

Open to ages 18 and older.

Registration & Fees

Registration required for EACH participant.  Sorry, no group registrations. All Natural Area entry fees apply.

When & Where to Meet

Arrive by 8:45 am.  Meet near the rainwater harvesting tower next to the Visitor’s Center. Plan ahead, as the Natural Area often experiences heavy visitation and wait time at the fee booth.   

What to Wear & Bring

Dress in layers and wear sturdy shoes for hiking over rough terrain; bring two liters of water and a snack. Participants must wear a bike helmet; please BYO helmet.

Requirements

Participants should be able to ride approximately 7 miles round trip.  Group size is limited to 8. Reservations required and will be accepted through noon December 31, 2017.  No pets please. To reduce human impact on the Natural Area, please follow the Leave No Trace principles of outdoor ethics.

In the event of inclement weather, this program is subject to cancellation.  Check trail conditions by calling GCSNA’s main office at 210-688-9055 after 7:30AM, going to the GCSNA twitter feed or the Friends of Government Canyon Facebook page .
