Government Canyon is home to many species of butterflies including the migratory Monarch! Come join a Ranger for a walk around the Natural Area in search of butterflies. Feel free to bring the kiddos in a carrier but be advised that the hike may not be stroller friendly.
Who is Invited
This program is open to all ages; minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian.
Registration & Fees
Registration required for each person. Sorry, no group registrations. Natural Area entry fees apply; stop at the Entrance Fee Booth to self-pay/register.
When & Where to Meet
Arrive by 8:45am. Meet at the rainwater tower next to the Visitor's Center. Plan ahead, as the Natural Area often experiences heavy visitation and there may be wait time at the fee booth.
What to Wear & Bring
Dress appropriately, sunscreen and hat recommended, wear sturdy footwear for hiking over rough terrain; bring two liters of water and a snack.
Requirements
Group size is limited to the first 40 adults that register. No pets please. Minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian. To reduce human impact on the Natural Area, please follow the Leave No Trace principles of outdoor ethics.

Programs are subject to cancellation. On inclement mornings, check trail conditions by calling GCSNA’s main office at 210-688-9055 after 7:30AM, or by going to the GCSNA twitter feed or the Friends of Government Canyon Facebook page.
