A Bit About Birds

Spend the morning with TPWD Urban Biologist, Jessica Alderson, and learn about some of our local Texas birds!  Look and listen for common avian friends as we take a short walk around the Natural Area Headquarters and Discovery Trail.

Who is Invited

Open to ages 6 and up; minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian.

When & Where to Meet

Arrive by 8:45 AM and meet at the rainwater tower next to the Visitor's Center.  Plan ahead, as the Natural Area often experiences heavy visitation and wait time at the fee booth.

What to Wear & Bring

Dress appropriately; wear sturdy footwear for walking, sunscreen and hats are recommended.  Bring plenty of water and a snack if desired.

Group size is limited to 25. No pets please. Minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian. To reduce human impact on the Natural Area, please follow the Leave No Trace principles of outdoor ethics.

Registration & Fees

Registration is required for this hike. Natural Area entry fees apply; stop at the Entrance Fee Booth to self-pay/register.

This program is subject to cancellation.  On inclement mornings, check trail conditions by calling GCSNA's main office at 210-688-9055 after 7:30AM, or by going to the GCSNA twitter feed or the Friends of Government Canyon Facebook page.
