Join volunteers from the Friends of Government Canyon and Trail Patrol on a hike to the Protected Habitat.
Who is Invited
Open to ages 14 and older; minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian.
Registration & Fees
Registration required for EACH participant. Sorry, no group registrations. All Natural Area entry fees apply.
When & Where to Meet
Arrive by 7:45 am. Meet near the rainwater harvesting tower next to the Visitor’s Center. Plan ahead, as the Natural Area often experiences heavy visitation and wait time at the fee booth.
What to Wear & Bring
Dress in layers appropriate for the weather. Carry at least 3 liters of water per person, snacks, lunch, sunscreen, hat, and raingear. Wear sturdy, well-broken-in hiking shoes or boots.
Requirements
Participants must be at least 14 years of age and physically able to hike 12 to 13 miles round trip over broken, rocky terrain with a good portion of elevation gain and loss. Group size is limited to 12. Reservations required and will be accepted through noon January 5, 2018. No pets please. To reduce human impact on the Natural Area, please follow the Leave No Trace principles of outdoor ethics.

In the event of inclement weather, this program is subject to cancellation. Check trail conditions by calling GCSNA’s main office at 210-688-9055 after 7:30AM, going to the GCSNA twitter feed or the Friends of Government Canyon Facebook page .
