Join a Government Canyon guide and get outside to hike the Bluff Spurs trail! This 3.0-mile round trip hike will feature typical Edwards Plateau species such as Ashe Juniper, Live Oak, Mountain Laurel, and Twist-Leaf Yucca, giving your guide plenty of opportunity to teach you all about native Texas plants! The trail follows rugged terrain with elevation gain and leads to a beautiful overlook featuring Government Canyon's visitor center and the local hill country.
Who is Invited
Open to all ages; minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian.
When & Where to Meet
Arrive by 7:45. Plan ahead, as the Natural Area often experiences heavy visitation and wait time at the fee booth. Meet near the rainwater harvesting tower next to the Visitor’s Center.
What to Wear & Bring
Dress appropriately; wear sturdy footwear for rough terrain, sunscreen and hats are recommended. Bring 2 liters of water per person and a snack if desired.
Requirements
Group size is limited to the first 15 adults. No pets please. Minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian. To reduce human impact on the Natural Area, please follow the Leave No Trace principles of outdoor ethics.
Registration, Fees & Cancellation
Registration is NOT required for this hike. Natural Area entry fees apply; stop at the Entrance Fee Booth to self-pay/register.
