Explore the Canyon

Knowledgeable guides discuss the flora, fauna, natural and cultural history of this awesome natural area on this exploration.  Length of walk and interpretive topic will vary, depending on the group.

Who is Invited

Open to all ages; minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian.

When & Where to Meet

Arrive by 8:15 AM, the hike starts promptly at 8:30 AM.  Meet near the rainwater harvesting tower next to the Visitor’s Center. Plan ahead, as the Natural Area often experiences heavy visitation and wait time at the fee booth.  

What to Wear & Bring

Dress appropriately; wear sturdy footwear for hiking over rough terrain, sunscreen and hats are recommended.  Bring 2 liters of water per person and a snack if desired.

Requirements

Group size is limited to the first 12 people. No pets please. Minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian. To reduce human impact on the Natural Area, please follow the Leave No Trace principles of outdoor ethics.

Registration & Fees

Registration is NOT required for this hike. Natural Area entry fees apply; stop at the Entrance Fee Booth to self-pay/register.

Cancellation

This program is subject to cancellation.  On inclement mornings, check trail conditions by calling GCSNA's main office at 210-688-9055 after 7:30AM, or by going to the GCSNA twitter feed or the Friends of Government Canyon Facebook page.
