Join the Friends of Government Canyon for a guided hike at Government Canyon State Natural Area.

Learn how to Leave No Trace while hiking the Recharge Trail, Bluff Spurs, down Sendero Balcones and back onto the Recharge Trail and out. This hike is approximately 4 miles in length with some elevation change and rocky trails.

Who is Invited

Open to ages 13 and over; minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. Registration/reservations required! Sorry, no group registrations.

When & Where to Meet

Arrive no later than 7:45AM.  The Natural Area front gates open at 7:00AM; plan to be at the Visitor Center and ready to go no later than 7:45AM. The hike starts promptly at 8:00AM.

What to Wear & Bring

Dress for hiking outdoors; sunscreen and hat recommended. Wear sturdy footwear appropriate for rough trails; bring two liters of water PER PERSON and a snack.

Requirements

No pets please. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.  Participants should be able to hike approximately 4 miles over rocky, uneven ground.

To reduce human impact on the Natural Area, please follow the Leave No Trace principles of outdoor ethics.

Registration, Fees & Cancellation

Registration is required for this hike. Group size is limited to the first 10 that register.   Natural Area entry fees apply.
