Find the treasures hidden within the Natural Area that tell you: It's All About Water
Join us at the canyon as we celebrate 100 years of Texas State Parks with a special geocache challenge! Learn how YOUR local State Natural Area, it’s past, present and future, are all connected to the importance of fresh, reliable water! Take part in a very special geocache challenge and get a great trackable item while experiencing locations within the Natural Area that really are all about water.
The Geocache Challenge
The challenge is to locate every “Interprecache” hidden throughout the Natural Area, collect one each of the 8 special, stamped card(s) placed inside them and return the cards to the Visitor Center to win a special trackable item for you to use on future geocaching.
There are 5 caches to find, and each cache contains either one or two special, stamped cards.
Your challenge: collect one each of the special, stamped card(s) placed inside the cache boxes. There are 8 stamped cards in all to collect. Return all 8 stamped cards to the Visitor Center to win a special trackable item for you to use on future geocaching.
SPECIAL NOTES
Even if you’ve already found these caches, the stamped cards for this event are unique to this day; previously found cards do not count.
Ask at the Fee Booth or Visitor Center for the names of the 5 Interprecaches so you know which ones to find!
This challenge is TIME SENSITIVE! Participants have from 7AM until 3PM to compete the challenge. There can be more than one winner but the challenge ENDS AT 3PM.
Who is Invited
Open to all ages; minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please.
Registration, Fees, Day Pass & Cancellation
This is one of many 100-year celebration events happening in Texas state parks this year. Entry to a park is free on the day it hosts an official 100-Year Celebration (applies to day passes only). The Natural Area can be very busy! Guarantee entry by reserving your free day pass up to one month before this special event. Please reserve and print out your day pass in advance.
This hike is weather dependent and subject to cancellation. Check trail conditions by going to the GCSNA twitter feed or the Government Canyon State Natural Area Facebook page.

Geocachers should be capable of hiking over rugged, uneven ground with elevation gains. Some cache locations are easy to get to, some are not. Go to www.geocaching.com to check out the “interprecaches” online ahead of time so you know what to prepare for, or contact John.koepke@tpwd.texas.gov for more information.
