Birding for Beginners

Birding is an activity that people of all ages can enjoy while contributing to citizen science projects that are used by land managers and researchers all over the world. A park ranger will show you the basics of bird identification, share some helpful hints and tools, and lead a short, guided bird walk. Ages 8 and up. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets, please. We will provide some binoculars to share but please bring your own if you have them.

Registration, Fees, Day Pass & Cancellation

Registration/reservations are NOT required! Though the hike is free, all Natural Area entry fees apply.

To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth, please pre-purchase and PRINT OUT a Day Pass .

This hike is weather-dependent and subject to cancellation. Check trail conditions by calling GCSNA’s main office at 210-688-9055, or go to the GCSNA twitter feed or Facebook page.

When & Where to Meet

Meet in the Amphitheater. Lot C will have the closest parking.  

What to Wear & Bring

Dress for hiking outdoors, in layers that can be added or removed as the weather changes. Comfortable shoes, sunscreen, and a hat are recommended. Bring at least 32 oz of water per person.
