Winter Bird Walk

Hike 2-3 miles in the Frontcountry with a GCSNA Ranger. Birders of all skill levels are welcome. We will have loaner binoculars if you need to borrow a pair. 

Who is Invited

This hike is limited to the first 12 people to check in with the ranger. Ages 10 and up. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please.

This is a public program intended for individuals or families. If you would like to bring a group for a program at Government Canyon, please contact the Park Interpreter at Lisa.Cole@tpwd.texas.gov to schedule at a different time. 

Registration, Fees, Day Passes

Program reservations are NOT required! Though the hike is free, all Natural Area entry fees apply.

To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth, please pre-purchase and PRINT OUT a Day Pass . Please note: reserving a Day Pass does not guarantee a spot for you on the hike! The hike is limited to the first 12 participants to check-in with the hike leader.

When & Where to Meet

Meet at the Frontcountry Trailhead in parking lot C, near the Amphitheater. The hike will leave promptly at 8:00 am, so please plan to arrive a little early. GCSNA opens at 7 am.

What to Wear & Bring

Be aware that this hike may include some elevation gain and loss over rough, rocky topography. Dress for hiking outdoors. Wear layers that can be taken on or off as the day's weather changes. Comfortable shoes, sunscreen, and a hat are recommended. Bring at least 2 liters of water per person and a snack.
