How do spotted fur, big ears, long tails, and other special features help animals survive in a challenging environment?
Stop by to learn more at a touch table and craft station. All are welcome, but this activity is timed to coincide with Girl Scouts Love State Parks weekend.
Learn about the amazing ways in which Government Canyon wildlife is adapted to hide from danger, find food, and handle extreme temperatures at a wildlife touch table with skulls, feathers, pelts, and more. Then use craft supplies to create a critter of your own design. This is a come and go activity open to all during the event times.
We will have trail maps with suggested routes available for troops or families who would like a short hike, as well as a photo scavenger hunt you can use on the trail.
Who is Invited
All ages welcome, but this activity is best for 6-14 year-olds. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please.
Girl Scouts Love State Parks is this weekend. We'd love to see your troop, but if you are bringing more than 10 girls, please contact the Park Interpreter at Lisa.Cole@tpwd.texas.gov to give us a heads-up.
Registration, Fees, Day Passes
Reservations are NOT required! Though the activity is free, all Natural Area entry fees apply.
To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth, please pre-purchase and PRINT OUT a Day Pass . Day passes can be reserved beginning one month before the date of your visit.
When & Where to Meet
This activity meets in the Picnic Pavilion, near the Visitor Center. Lot A or B will be the closest parking. There is a paved path leading from the parking lots to the Pavilion, a distance of about 120'. The Pavilion is near an accessible restroom. The Discovery Trail, which has a crushed granite surface, is our most accessible trail and is nearby.
What to Wear & Bring
Dress for hiking outdoors, in layers that can be added or removed as the weather changes. Comfortable shoes, sunscreen, bug spray and a hat are recommended. Bring at least 2 liters of water per person and a snack.
