Rockin' Through Time

Maybe you've wondered how old the ground you’re walking on is. Or have you ever thought about what created the hills at Government Canyon? Join a ranger to look at the different rock formations of Government Canyon, discover the diverse rocks we walk over every day, and learn about the faults that exist within the natural area. You'll gain a new way to look at our familiar landscape.

Who is Invited

Open to ages 10 and older. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. Hike will be in the backcountry where no pets are allowed.

Registration, Fees, Day Pass & Cancellation

Reservations are NOT required! Though the activity is free, all Natural Area entry fees apply.

To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth, please pre-purchase and PRINT OUT a Day Pass .

This hike is weather-dependent and subject to cancellation. Check trail conditions by calling GCSNA’s main office at 210-688-9055, or go to the GCSNA twitter feed or Facebook page.

When & Where to Meet

Meet by the rainwater towers at the Visitor Center by 8:15 am.

What to Wear & Bring

Dress for hiking outdoors; sturdy and comfortable hiking shoes, sunscreen, bug spray and a hat are recommended. Bring at least 3 liters of water per person and a snack.

DETAILS

This hike will be approximately 4 miles and will go through some areas that have rough, rocky terrain and significant elevation change.
