Insects have short lives, and many of them are small creatures, but they have a HUGE impact in the ecosystem. Walk with a park ranger to a location where we can net and observe some of these tiny influencers. We will provide insect capture equipment and all critters will be released unharmed after observation.
Who is Invited
All ages, but best for 6 years and up. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets, please.
This is a public program intended for individuals or families. If you would like to bring a group for a program at Government Canyon, please contact the Park Interpreter at Lisa.Cole@tpwd.texas.gov to schedule at a different time.
Registration, Fees, Day Passes
Reservations are NOT required, but the program is limited to the first 25 people to check in. Though the hike is free, all Natural Area entry fees apply.
To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth, please pre-purchase and PRINT OUT a Day Pass . Day passes can be reserved beginning one month before the date of your visit.
When & Where to Meet
Meet in the Picnic Pavilion, behind the Visitor Center. Lot A will have the closest parking. Please check-in with the ranger upon arrival.
What to Wear & Bring
Dress for hiking outdoors, in layers that can be added or removed as the weather changes. Comfortable shoes, sunscreen, and a hat are recommended. Bring at least 32 oz of water per person.
