Bluff Spurs Hike

At Government Canyon State Natural Area, it’s all about water. Learn more about the Edwards Aquifer and its recharge zone as you explore the Bluff Spurs, Sendero Balcones, and Recharge Trails in a 3.5-mile loop.

Who is Invited

Open to all ages; participants under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian; no pets please. Be aware that this hike includes some elevation gain and loss over rough, rocky topography.

This is a public program intended for individuals or families. If you would like to bring a group for a program at Government Canyon, please contact the Park Interpreter at Lisa.Cole@tpwd.texas.gov to schedule at a different time. 

Registration & Fees

Registration is NOT required for this hike. Though the hike is free, all Natural Area entry fees apply.

To save time at the Fee Booth and ensure entrance, please pre-purchase and PRINT OUT a Day Pass. Day passes can be reserved beginning one month before the date of your visit. Please note: reserving a Day Pass does not guarantee a spot for you on the hike! The hike is limited to the first 15 participants to check-in with the hike leader.

When & Where to Meet

Meet at the rainwater tower at the Visitor Center; closest parking will be Lot A or B.

What to Wear & Bring

Dress for hiking outdoors. Wear layers that can be taken on or off as the day's weather changes. Comfortable shoes, sunscreen, and a hat are recommended. Bring at least 2 liters of water per person and a snack.

Cancellation

This program is subject to cancellation.  Should there be inclement weather, please check Natural Area conditions by calling GCSNA's main office at 210-688-9055, or go to GCSNA’s website, twitter feed or Facebook page.
