Make 'n Take a SUNtacular Eclipse Viewer!

  • 1218 Galm Road San Antonio, TX, 78254 United States (map)

Government Canyon will be in the perfect viewing path for the October 14, 2023 and April 8, 2024 solar eclipses.  Join our volunteers as we teach you about solar eclipses and how to safely view them.  We will even guide you in building your own viewing device; a pinhole viewer; to take home for safe viewing!

Who is Invited

Open to all ages; minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please.

Registration & Fees

Registration is NOT required for this program. Though the program is free, all Natural Area entry fees apply.

To save time at the Fee Booth on crowded days and ensure entrance, please pre-purchase and PRINT OUT a Day Pass. SPECIAL NOTE: Reserving a Day Pass is NOT the same as making a program reservation.

When & Where to Meet

Meet in the Exhibit Gallery next to the Visitors’ Center. The Natural Area can be very busy! The Natural Area front gates open at 7:00AM; plan to be in the Exhibit Gallery and ready to go no later than 8:45AM.

What to Wear & Bring

Dress for the weather.  The Exhibit Gallery is a covered space, but open-air.  You may bring water and snacks if you like.

Please bring an empty box approximately 9in x 7in x 3in for your pinhole viewer.  Examples are empty cereal, shoe, or cracker boxes. The longer the box, the bigger the image. We will have a limited number of boxes available; if you can bring one, it would be appreciated!  All other supplies for the viewer will be provided.

Cancellation

This program will take place rain or shine!  Check Natural Area conditions by calling GCSNA's main office at 210-688-9055, or go to GCSNA’s website, twitter feed or Facebook page.
