Have you wondered why the subdivisions and schools around the Natural Area are named “Kallison”? Come make history and learn about some of Government Canyon’s history on our inaugural Sunset History Hike - the very first public tour of the Kallison Ranch complex.
We will hike about 2.5 miles round trip over some moderately rough terrain to explore parts of the historic Kallison ranch complex and enjoy some incredible scenic views. We will discuss some of the history of how Texas was settled in the late 1800’s, and learn about the highly influential Kallison family, how their ranch came to be, why it is no more, and the impact they had on Texas agriculture.
