Come out to Government Canyon and explore the night sky with the San Antonio Astronomical Association. View Venus and Mercury very close to each other before they go down in the west, Andromeda Galaxy, the Pleiades, Orion Nebula and the nearly full moon as it rises. You can also learn the basics of telescope operation. Bring your own telescope or binoculars, or enjoy the sights from one of the SAAA's telescopes.
Who Is Invited
Open to all ages; participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Registration & Fees
Registration is NOT required. All Natural Area entry fees apply. Since this event begins after hours, please stop at the self-pay area to the right of the Fee Booth to self-pay. Correct change is required: $6 per person ages 13 and over; 12 and under are free. If you have a Texas State Park Pass, please enter the number on the appropriate line of the self-pay envelope. Credit cards are NOT accepted when self-paying.
When & Where to Meet
Event begins at 7:00 pm, but you may come and go as you like. Park in Parking Lot A and walk the short distance to Parking Lot C. Friends of Government Canyon volunteers will be on hand to guide you.
What to Wear & Bring
Dress for the weather. Bring water, a snack if you like, and your own flashlight with a red lens cover.
No pets please. Minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian. To reduce human impact on the Natural Area, please follow the Leave No Trace principles of outdoor ethics.
