Junior Earth Scholars

Join Friends of Government Canyon volunteers to explore earth education through play at the Natural Area.  Young scholars will participate in various activities to learn about the connections between science and play.  Each session will include a brief introduction, short hike and hands-on activities. Program is geared toward school grades 1 - 6. 

Who is Invited

Children in grades 1 - 6; minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian.

Registration & Fees

Registration required for EACH participant.  Adults attending with their children should NOT register.  Sorry, no group registrations.  Natural Area entry fees apply; stop at the Entrance Fee Booth to self-pay/register.

When & Where to Meet

Arrive by 8:45am.  Meet in the Exhibit Gallery next to the Visitor's Center.  Plan ahead, as the Natural Area often experiences heavy visitation and there may be wait time at the fee booth.

What to Wear & Bring

Wear sturdy shoes and weather-appropriate clothing; bring plenty of water (1 liter per person) and a snack if you like. 

Requirements

Group size is limited to 20. No pets please. Minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian. To reduce human impact on the Natural Area, please follow the Leave No Trace principles of outdoor ethics.

Programs are subject to cancellation.  On inclement mornings, check trail conditions by calling GCSNA’s main office at 210-688-9055 after 7:30AM, or by going to the GCSNA twitter feed or the Friends of Government Canyon Facebook page .
