Guided Hike to the Protected Habitat

Join the Friends of Government Canyon for a guided hike to the Protected Habitat.

Members of the Friends of Government Canyon Activities Committee and Trail Patrol will lead a hike to the Protected Habitat. This hike is approximately 12 to 13 miles over rough terrain.

Who is Invited

Open to ages 14 and over; minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. Registration/reservations required! Sorry, no group registrations; no pets please.

When & Where to Meet

Arrive no later than 7:45AMMeet at the Visitors Center near the rainwater harvesting tower. The Natural Area front gates open at 7:00AM; plan to be at the Visitor Center and ready to go no later than 7:45AM. The hike starts promptly at 8:00AM. The hike will last until 3:00 or 4:00 PM depending on participants.

What to Wear & Bring

Dress in layers appropriate for the weather. Carry at least 3 liters of water per person, snacks, lunch, sunscreen, hat and raingear. Wear sturdy well-broken-in hiking shoes or boots.

Requirements

No pets please. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.  Participants must be physically able to hike approximately 12 to 13 miles over rocky trails with significant elevation changes.

To reduce human impact on the Natural Area, please follow the Leave No Trace principles of outdoor ethics.

Registration, Fees & Cancellation

Registration is required for this hike. Group size is limited. Registration opens on Saturday two weeks prior to the event and closes at noon the Thursday before the event. Natural Area entry fees apply.
