Full Moon Hike

Knowledgeable guides will discuss the moon, nocturnal wildlife, Government Canyon history, and more. The hike is approximately one-mile round trip over fairly level terrain. 

Who is Invited

Open to ages 10 and over; minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please.

This is a public program intended for individuals or families. If you would like to bring a group for a program at Government Canyon, please contact the Park Interpreter at Lisa.Cole@tpwd.texas.gov to schedule at a different time.

Registration, Fees, Day Pass & Cancellation

Registration is NOT required for this hike, but group size is limited to the first 15 people that check in with the hike leaders. Though the hike is free, entrance fees to the Natural Area apply.

The Natural Area can be very busy! To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth please pre-purchase and PRINT OUT a Day Pass . Day passes may be reserved one month before the date of your visit.

This hike is subject to cancellation. Check trail conditions by going to the GCSNA twitter feed or the Government Canyon State Natural Area Facebook page.

When & Where to Meet

Meet at the Rock Garden beside the Visitor Center. Please be in place and ready to go no later than 6:15 pm. The hike is limited to the first 15 people to check in with the hike leaders. Be ready to hike the Discovery Trail on your own if the hike fills to capacity before you arrive. 

What to Wear & Bring

Dress for hiking outdoors; comfortable shoes, bug spray and a hat are recommended. Bring at least 1 liter of water per person.
