Full Moon Hike

Join knowledgeable guides on a 3-mile hike and experience a full moon.

Who is Invited

Open to ages 10 and over; minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please.

Registration, Fees, Day Pass & Cancellation

Registration is required for this hike and group size is limited. Registration opens on Saturday, two weeks prior to the event, and closes at noon, the Thursday before the event. Though the hike is free, entrance fees to the Natural Area apply.

The Natural Area can be very busy! To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth please pre-purchase and PRINT OUT a Day Pass . SPECIAL NOTE: Reserving a Day Pass is NOT the same as making a program reservation.

IMPORTANT INFO: This is an after-hours hike. If you DO NOT reserve a Day Pass in advance, be sure to self-register as you enter the Natural Area. Instructions are posted to the right of the Fee Booth. You will need correct change: $6 per adult (13 years or older), or enter your annual Texas State Parks pass number on the appropriate line of the self-pay envelope. Credit cards are NOT accepted when self-paying.

This hike is subject to cancellation. Check trail conditions by going to the GCSNA twitter feed or the Government Canyon State Natural Area Facebook page.

When & Where to Meet

Arrive no later than 5:45PM. Plan to arrive early and meet at the Visitors Center by the rainwater harvesting tower. The hike starts promptly at 6:00PM. If you are late, you'll miss out!

What to Wear & Bring

Please dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes; open-toed footwear and/or sandals are NOT recommended. Bring a flashlight, at least a quart of water, and a snack if you like.

Details

Participants should be able to hike 3 miles (round trip) over rugged trails with some elevation gain.
