Family Stroll

Start your kids out on the right foot enjoying the outdoors! Join dedicated volunteers on a FUN and easy family-friendly walk.

Participants will learn about nature, wildlife, native plants, and whatever else the kiddos find along the way!

Activity distance will be approximately 1.25 miles on a compacted crush granite surface. Strollers welcome!

Who is Invited

All ages welcome. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please.

This is a public program intended for families. If you would like to bring a group for a program at Government Canyon, please contact the Park Interpreter at Lisa.Cole@tpwd.texas.gov to schedule at a different time.

Registration, Fees, Day Pass & Cancellation

Registration is NOT required for this activity.

Though the activity is free, entrance fees to the Natural Area apply. To save time at the Fee Booth and ensure entrance on crowded days, please pre-purchase and PRINT OUT a Day Pass. Please note: reserving a Day Pass does not guarantee a spot for you on the walk! The walk is limited to the first 15 participants to check-in with the hike leader.

This program is weather-dependent and subject to cancellation.  Check trail conditions by going to the GCSNA twitter feed or the Government Canyon State Natural Area Facebook page.

When & Where to Meet

Meet at the Rock Garden beside the Visitor’s Center. Open to the first 15 who check in at the Rock Garden between 8:30 and 8:45 AM. The stroll starts promptly at 9:00 AM, please arrive on time. We will use the Discovery Trail, which has a compacted crushed granite surface.

What to Wear & Bring

Dress for the outdoors. Comfortable shoes/boots, sunscreen, bug spray and a hat recommended. Wear layers that can be added or removed as weather conditions change. Bring at least 1 liter of water per person and snacks.

Details

Participants should be able to hike 2.0 miles (round trip) with fairly rocky conditions and some slight elevation changes.
