Start the new year with a gentle walk on the all-weather Discovery Trail. This easy hike is about 1.25 miles long.
Who is Invited
Open to all ages; no pets please. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.
Registration, Fees, Day Pass & Cancellation
Though the activity is free, entrance fees to the Natural Area apply. To save time at the Fee Booth and ensure entrance on crowded days, please pre-purchase and PRINT OUT a Day Pass.
Please note: reserving a Day Pass does not guarantee a spot for this activity! The activity is limited to the first 15 participants to check-in with the activity leader at the Discovery Trailhead between 8:30 and 8:45AM.
This program is weather-dependent and subject to cancellation. Check trail conditions by going to the GCSNA twitter feed or the Government Canyon State Natural Area Facebook page.
When & Where to Meet
Meet at the Discovery Trailhead. Dress for hiking outdoors; sunscreen and hat recommended. Wear sturdy footwear and bring one liter of water PER PERSON, lunch, and a snack if you like.
The Natural Area can be very busy! The Natural Area front gates open at 7:00AM; plan to be at the Visitor Center and ready to go no later than 8:45AM. The hike starts promptly at 9:00AM.
What to Wear & Bring
Dress for hiking outdoors; sunscreen and hat recommended. Wear sturdy footwear appropriate for rough trails (no sandals or open-toed footwear please), bring at least one (1) liter of water per person and a snack if you like.
