Knowledgeable guides will discuss the flora, fauna, natural and cultural history of Government Canyon State Natural Area. Hike recurs most months, length of hike and interpretive topic(s) will vary depending on the group.
Who is Invited
Open to ages 10 and above; participants under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian; no pets please. The hike is limited to the first 15 participants to check-in with the hike leader.
Registration & Fees
Program reservations are NOT required for this hike. Though the hike is free, all Natural Area entry fees apply.
To save time at the Fee Booth on crowded days and ensure entrance, please pre-purchase and PRINT OUT a Day Pass. Please note: reserving a Day Pass does not guarantee a spot for you on the hike! The hike is limited to the first 15 participants to check-in with the hike leader.
When & Where to Meet
Meet at the rainwater harvesting tower at the Visitor Center. Please check-in with the hike leader upon arrival as the hike is limited to 15 participants. The Natural Area can be very busy! The Natural Area front gates open at 7:00AM; plan to be at the Visitor Center and ready to go no later than 7:45AM.
What to Wear & Bring
Dress for hiking outdoors; sunscreen and hat recommended. Wear sturdy footwear for hiking over rough terrain. Bring two liters of water per person, and a snack.

This program is subject to cancellation. Should there be inclement weather, please check Natural Area conditions by calling GCSNA's main office at 210-688-9055, or go to GCSNA’s website, twitter feed or Facebook page.
