Join the Friends of Government Canyon for a guided hike at Government Canyon State Natural Area.
Current COVID-19 protocols; masks and social distancing; are strongly encouraged. We will be hiking the Recharge Trail to Sendero Balcones, up to the Wildcat Canyon Trail then down the Joe Johnson Trail and out. This hike is approximately 5 miles in length.
Who is Invited
Open to ages 13 and over; minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. Registration/reservations required! Sorry, no group registrations.
When & Where to Meet
Arrive no later than 7:45AM. The Natural Area front gate opens at 7:00AM. Meet at the Visitor Center by the rainwater harvesting tower. The hike starts promptly at 8:00AM.
What to Wear & Bring
Current COVID-19 protocols; masks and social distancing; are strongly encouraged. Dress for hiking outdoors; sunscreen and hat recommended. Wear sturdy footwear appropriate for rough trails; bring two liters of water PER PERSON and a snack.
Requirements
No pets please. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. Participants should be able to hike approximately 5 miles over rocky, uneven ground.
To reduce human impact on the Natural Area, please follow the Leave No Trace principles of outdoor ethics.
Registration, Fees & Cancellation
Registration is required for this hike. Group size is limited to the first 10 that register. Natural Area entry fees apply.
